Bonding is a non-invasive method for improving the appearance of teeth, performed in a single dental visit. It is a painless procedure done under local anesthesia and involves applying thin layers of composite material to the tooth surface after professional cleaning. With a wide variety of composite materials available, we can achieve a natural and aesthetic smile.
It is an excellent method for correcting both tooth color and shape. We use it for discolored, shortened, or rotated teeth, teeth after root canal treatment, closing gaps (diastemas), broken teeth, or genetic enamel disorders.
Bonding can be applied to a single tooth or several, depending on the patient's needs. Modern composites with various shades, saturations, and translucency allow us to replicate the unique details of neighboring teeth. With the right skills, a dentist can create "invisible" restorations that mimic natural light reflections, spots, and translucency.
Usually, bonding covers the incisors and canines (from "canine to canine"), but for patients with a wide smile, we often include the premolars. Bonding the front teeth does not prevent further aesthetic improvements of the remaining teeth later on.
It is a cost-effective alternative to porcelain veneers. However, unlike porcelain, bonding requires periodic refreshing. Depending on diet (coffee, tea, staining foods) and smoking, the material may discolor over time. In such cases, professional polishing during a routine check-up is sufficient. Despite this, the effect usually lasts for several years, making it one of the simplest ways to achieve a dream smile.
