What Does the Dental Implant Procedure Look Like?

Modern dentistry offers solutions that seemed unreachable just a few decades ago. Dental implants are currently the most perfect way to restore missing teeth, allowing patients to regain full bite functionality and a natural smile. However, many people fear the implantation process itself. Is it justified? Let's look at what the procedure actually looks like at Anna Dental Clinic.

The entire process begins with a detailed consultation. In our clinic in Gdańsk, we place great emphasis on diagnostic imaging, using CT scans (CBCT) and X-rays to precisely assess the quality and quantity of the jawbone. Based on this, the doctor selects the appropriate implant system and creates a digital treatment plan. This is the stage where the patient learns every detail of the upcoming transformation.

Before we proceed with the procedure, we must be sure that the oral cavity is healthy. Any tooth decay or gum inflammation must be treated first. In some cases, if teeth have been missing for a long time, bone regeneration (augmentation) may be necessary to create a stable base for the implant.

The implantation procedure itself usually lasts from 30 to 60 minutes. Thanks to modern local anesthesia, the procedure is completely painless for the patient. The surgeon makes a micro-incision, prepares the site in the bone, and inserts a titanium screw that acts as the tooth root. After the procedure, small sutures are placed, which are removed after about a week.

After the procedure, a key stage called osseointegration occurs. This is the process where the bone fuses with the titanium surface of the implant, recognizing it as a natural part of the body. This usually takes 3 to 6 months. During this time, the patient can use temporary restorations, so the missing tooth is not visible.

When the implant is stably integrated with the bone, we move to the final stage. The doctor takes impressions, based on which our laboratory creates an individual prosthetic crown. We match its shape and color so that it is indistinguishable from natural teeth. After attaching the crown, the patient can enjoy a full smile and comfort while eating.
