Root canal treatment is often a way to avoid tooth extraction. It involves removing damaged or dead nerves and blood vessels from the root that has been infected due to decay, chipping, or trauma. The space remaining after nerve removal is filled with material that seals the tooth and allows it to function as before.
Endodontic treatment is especially recommended when teeth begin to change their color, are characterized by hypersensitivity to temperature changes, or are cracked or broken and cause pain. Whether a given case is suitable for endodontic procedure is determined by the dentist, who identifies the cause of the ailment and plans further action.
Repeat root canal treatment (re-endo) can be a complicated and demanding procedure, involving the removal of the material currently filling the canal, re-cleaning the canal, and filling it with a new material.
In our clinic, we have SmartOptic dental microscopes, which we use in every complicated case of endodontic treatment. Endodontic treatment can safely and comfortably save a tooth for many years, which under other circumstances would have to be removed. The procedure is performed under anesthesia with the protection of a rubber dam, thanks to which it is completely safe and painless for the patient.
