PROSTHETICS - CROWNS, BRIDGES, PORCELAIN VENEERS
AND REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS |

Save
your natural teeth as long as it is possible.
For the short run, it is cheaper to extract
a tooth instead of paying for a root-canal
treatment, but it is for the long run
more expensive. Gaps left by missing teeth
eventually cause the remaining teeth to
rotate or shift into the empty spaces,
resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance
caused by missing teeth can also lead
to gum disease and temporomandibular joint
(TMJ) disorders.. The more teeth you decide
to extract, the more expensive it will
be to reconstruct your lost teeth and
bite in the future.

Modern
Prosthetics
There are a number of modern solutions
to replace your lost teeth depending on
your tooth status and economy.
|
 |
Porcelain
veneers
Porcelain veneers, sometimes also termed
dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates,
are one of cosmetic dentistry's more recent
developments. These wafer-thin shells of
porcelain which are bonded onto the front
side of teeth can be an excellent cosmetic
solution for teeth that are stained, chipped,
or slightly misaligned.

Porcelain
crowns
When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or
damaged, a crown may need to be fitted onto
the tooth. The difference between porcelain
crowns is that the core can be made of different
materials as Cobalt-Chrome, Cercon, Gold
etc. Cercon crowns is very similar a natural
tooth.

Bridge
- Replacement of several teeth
A bridge may be recommended if you're
missing one or more teeth. Adjacent teeth
are used as columns and hanging crowns are
used where the tooth is missing. Alternative
to a bridge is implants. Read

Porcelain
Inlay/Onlay (composite resin or porcelain)
Dental inlays and onlays are used to restore
or decayed rear teeth that have a mild to
moderate amount of decay. When bigger part
of the crown is damaged, a normal composite
resin filling will be too weak. A stronger
material as porcelain has to be used. To
make an inlay/onlay, the dentist takes an
impression of your teeth and sent to the
dental lab where permanent, custom-made
inlay/onlay is created. The dentist cements
the porcelain inlay/onlay directly on the
tooth. The porcelain inlay has a more natural
shade of white than composite resin.

Prosthetics
on bar attachments
If the number, position and/or condition
of the remaining teeth do not permit the
use of bridges, removable dentures can be
made instead. These can often be extended,
if further damage is caused to one of the
patient's teeth. If the oral condition is
no longer sound, this option offers invaluable
advantages.
If you
are missing all your teeth, you can choose
bridge on implants or removable prosthetics.
A removable denture is a cheaper solution
than bridge and implants and it is made
in different prosthetic constructions depending
what teeth and how many teeth you are missing.
When using removable denture you can use
implants to keep the denture fixated so
the denture do not fall off when you eat
or talk. The difference between bridge and
partial denture is that the denture must
be taken out for cleaning every day, which
you do not have to do with a bridge which
is cemented to adjacent teeth or to implants.
With a partial denture your remaining teeth
can be used by attachments with or without
clammers.
